Training Session

Creating the training

Date: March 22th, 2019

Time: 9:00 am

Location: Asbury Methodist Church

Participants: Approximately 20 participants; the audience will be nonprofit social media managers/volunteers/owners

Rationale

Based on the needs assessment we performed, we learned that our trainees did not feel confident in their basic social media abilities; therefore, we wanted our training to give the non-profit social media managers familiarity with the platforms they were already using as well as inform them on the best practices for these platforms, so that their social media usage is successful and their branding is consistent and effective.

Objectives:

  • Learners will understand the overall concept and basic abilities/usage of the three main social media types which are up for discussion.

  • Participants will gain familiarity with these social media platforms.

  • Learners will be able to identify specific tips and practices which will make them better social media users.

  • We will introduce participants to new creative tools to aid their social media usage. They will gain familiarity and hands-on experience with these tools and posting them to social media.

  • Learners will walk away with confidence in understanding how to increase awareness of their organization through social media use.

Guess That Song! Before jumping into the peer training session, we played an icebreaker challenge where each participant had to guess the theme songs of popular blockbuster movies. This was an engaging experience that started to get the participants thinking and getting ready for the presentation to come.
